Section 8 Housing Program

The Village of Fairport has contracted with the Fairport Housing Authority (FHA) to administer this program, which is designed to promote adequate and affordable housing, economic opportunity and a suitable living environment without discrimination for tenants in eastern and southeastern Monroe County.

The program increased from 368 vouchers to 393 vouchers effective September 30, 2002 through the Fair Share Section 8 Program. The program territory encompasses the Town of Macedon within Wayne County and the eastern part of Monroe County, excluding the Town of Irondequoit and the City of Rochester. In addition, the program administers ten Section 8 project-based units in the 21-unit Fairport Crosman Senior Apartments project located in the Village of Fairport.

Program participants are screened for eligibility through an application process and income documentation. If eligible, participants are placed on a waiting list and will be contacted when appropriate housing becomes available.

The program's goals include:

• Preserve and increase the supply of affordable rental housing units
• Increase housing choice and discourage the stratification of housing types
• Promote social and economic diversification and integration
• Maximize the impact of housing assistance funding and leverage other public funds
• Encourage families to be economically self-sufficient
